Permanent makeup removal, especially eyebrows, is one of the fastest growing searches in Edmonton.
At Bush Whacked Laser we are getting more requests for microblading and powder brow removals every day. But cosmetic pigments behave differently than body tattoo ink.
Here’s what you need to know.
Many PMU pigments contain iron oxides which are an inorganic (not from nature) colour agent, these are safe and stable to ensure the colour does not fade to an undesirable colour.
They may also contain titanium dioxide, however not as much as tattoo inks as this ingredient is used to help keep the healed tattoo vibrant, where Permanent Makeup is usually designed to fade gradually.
Some colors can temporarily darken before fading. This is the ink oxidizing, a bit of a scab and your lymphatic fluid trying to flush the “toxins”. This is normal and manageable.
All new clients are required to have a consultation and test patch before we perform laser eyebrow removal.
Why?
Permanent Makeup pigments can shift, skin tones are different and everyone tolerates laser differently.
Testing allows us to:
• Confirm response
• Adjust wavelength
• Protect the skin
Laser PMU removal performed properly will not damage your natural brow hairs.
It targets pigment and is a different type of laser and a different wavelength then laser hair removal. Your brow hair will not be permanently affected, you may notice that the hair looks white or blond for a short time after, however it will return to normal during the healing process.
The surrounding skin is preserved, you will want to wear sunscreen and discontinue retinal’s around the appointment, but the skin will not change.
Experience matters, ensure your Permanent Makeup removal provider is certified and has had success with brow removal before booking an appointment.
Every client is different. Different pigments, skin tones, the age of the PMU, hormones and so much more can affect how many sessions some one could need. Most people require 2–4 sessions to fade the PMU to get new pigment over top. You will need more for a full removal.
Sessions are spaced 8 weeks or more apart to allow the area to heal, your lymphatic system to have time to flush the area and for your body to fade the Permanent Makeup as much as possible before treating the pigment again.
Some laser clinics also perform PMU services, posing a conflict of interest for clients who are working with a specific Artist.
If you are an independent Permanent Makeup artist, sending your client to a laser clinic that also provides PMU can be scary, you do not want your client swayed to a new artist. If you are a client, it can be intimidating.
Choosing clinic focused strictly on laser eases that pressure and fear so that you know your client is coming back to you and as a client you know your laser tech is just here to help your PMU artist. This is why Bush Whacked Laser does not have or intend to have a Permanent Makeup artist on staff.
Permanent Makeup can be safely removed in Edmonton. With the proper provider taking the proper precautions and using their expertise and knowledge of pigments. With just a few short sessions your brows will have a whole new look.
